POLICE SEEK RECRUITS
More than 40 persons, mostly young men, interested in joining the New Zealand Police, were interviewed at the Christchurch Central Police Station yesterday.
Martin Evans, aged 17, was interested in joining as a police cadet He is shown being interviewed by the police national recruiting officer (Inspector R. C. Anderson, of Wellington). The police want 80 cadets to begin a 19-month training course next January. Cadets are paid $1205 up to the age of 18, and $2670 when 19. After their training course, cadets are encouraged to begin or continue university studies, and are given four hours a week off on pay for this.
, Two students from Canterbury University, who will finish degree courses this year, were among those interviewed yesterday.
The police are seeking 60 constable recruits, aged 19 to 34, as well as 80 cadets. Christchurch has for many years been one of the best recruiting centres for the police. Inspector Anderson last evening paid tribute to the local recruiting officer. Sergeant W. A. Stock, saying that his work had undoubtedly made Christchurch such a good recruiting centre.
