100 Games For Marlborough
The captain of the Marlborough Rugby team, R. S. Sutherland, will play his one hundredth game for the union in the Seddon Shield game against Buller at Westport on Saturday.
He will be the first Marlborough player to achieve this distinction. Thirty-one New Zealand footballers have played 100 matches for a union, H. L. White (Auckland) holding the record with 196 appearances. Sutherland, a strongly built lock, first played for
Marlborough in 1958. As captain of the team he has played a vital part in the winning and retaining of the Seddon Shield and this season he led his side to the famous victory against France. He is the brother of the All Black utility forward, A. R. Sutherland.
The Marlborough captain holds the record for the most consecutive matches for his union. Saturday's game will be his sixtieth in succession for the representative team.
