FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anticyclone remains almost stationary east of New Zealand; a frontal zone has become slow moving to the west of the North Island and over the South Island as a depression in the south of the Tasman Sea moves away to the south-east. Forecast:

Marlborough, except the Kaikoura Coast. —Fresh northerly winds strong at times near Cook Strait; variable skies; scattered showers; mild.

Kaikoura Coast and Canterbury.—Moderate or fresh north-easterlies near the coast, north-westerlies inland; occasional rain in the Alps; cloudy and mild elsewhere. Buller and Westland.—Northerlies, fresh at times; cloudy with rain at times; moderate temperatures. Nelson. —Northerly winds fresh at times; cloudy and rather mild; occasional rain. Outlook.—All districts; some rain. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
