BRASS BAND CONTEST
Twelve entries had been received for the Canterbury Provincial Brass Bands Association’s festival contest at Waimate on October 19, it was announced at the annual meeting of the association. The judges will be Messrs A. Briesman (Dunedin) and V. A. G. Aldridge (Christchurch). The meeting was told that coming events included a school for conductors to be taken by Mr K. G. L. Smith, of Lower Hutt, a junior school for young bandsmen with Mr R. Simpson as tutor, and a quartet contest. A former president and secretary of the association, Mr W. Deer, was elected a life member.
In the annual report the highlight of the year was said to have been the National contest held in Christchurch and the high schools band festival. Officers elected were:—
Patron, Mr R. Simpson; vice-patron, Mr R. H. Clarke; president, Mr J. Rafferty; senior vice-president, Mr G. Aldridge; junior vice-presi-dent, Mr L. Clarke; secretarytreasurer, Mr S. Hobbs.
