New Brighton Wins Fine Match Against Lincoln
A dropped goal in the last second of play gave the champion team, New Brighton, another win in the final round of the senior championship. Its defeat of Lincoln College in one of the most pleasing matches of the season left it three points clear—a most convincing margin.
With Sydenham beaten by Shirley, Linwood has taken a one-point lead in the D.C.L. Shield competition, in which two rounds are yet to be played.
A strange feature of Saturday’s matches was that six of the seven winners came from behind. Old Boys. 13 points down to Christchurch, won 19-13; and Shirley, trailing Sydenham by 10 points, came out the winner by 17 points to 10.
