Late Closing Disliked
r.v.Z. Preu Association) AUCKLAND, August 9. After 10 months of 10 o’clock closing, Auckland hotel proprietors have found they do not like the late drinking hours. Late closing was introduced 10 months ago tonight. City and suburban publicans said they were selling almost no more beer than at this time last year, but they were now faced with higher costs and longer hours. The secretary of the Auckland Hotel Association (Mr C. F. Young) said city hotels had been battling to maintain last year’s figures. He thought it possible that economic retraints had kept people away from hotels.
