Stones Removed

The two foundation stones of the United Service Hotel which were uncovered by workmen on Friday were early yesterday afternoon chipped away and taken to a rubbish dump in small pieces. Mr W. Fraser, a carpenter replacing facing panels on the frontages of the shop on the Colombo Street-Cathedral Square comer of the buildings, said that the stones had been removed because they jutted sin or 6in from the rest of the stonework. The new facing would include windows and vitrolite panels which would extend to the ground.
