40 Candidates Disqualified

All 40 candidates of the Left-wing Opposition Kenya People’s Union Party were disqualified from the Nairobi municipal election on Saturday, riot police having to break up an angry . demonstration Outside the city'hall. Candidates of the filling Kenya. African National Union Party will be returned unopposed. The announcement that the nominations of the K.P.U candidates had been declared null and void because they were not in order was mad< by Mr William Martin, the; Nairobi District Commissioner. He said all the candidates had filled in their nomination papers wrongly, and there would not therefore be an election. Local government elections are due to be held throughout Kenya next month.
