COASTAL FREIGHT
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, August 5. The Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) said today that he could state quite categorically that there was no unfair competition by the Railways Department against coastal shipping. Any suggestion that the railways used special freight rates based on unrealistic figures displayed a lack of knowledge of the situation, he said.
Mr Gordon was commenting on reported remarks last week by Mr W. W. Knox, vice-president of the Road Carriers’ Association.
