GREAT BOULDER CONFIRMS FIND

Great Boulder Gold Mines, Ltd, and North Kalgurli (1912), Ltd, in the latest report on the Scotia Field north-west of Kalgoorlie, confirms the promising nickel discovery reported on July 14.

The diamond drilling report issued by the companies indicates a discovery of 3.54 per cent nickel in a width

of 100.75 ft. The discovery was made in S.D.B hole at a level between 950ft-1051.3ft. The report described it as a massive sulphide containing 0.28 per cent copper and minor cobalt. Earlier Report This report comes after the July 14 report on the 5.D.3 hole which indicated a discovery of 3.42 per cent nickel in a width of 55.3 ft. The significance of the latest report is that the width of the ore-body is almost double the discovery In 5.D.3 hole. Hole No. S.D.B is located 260 ft west of 5.D.6. At different levels the companies have reported very high nickel shows. At i039.3ft-1043.3ft, the nickel was 17.70 per cent in a width of 4ft. At 1043.3ft--1051.3ft, the show was 4.67 per cent nickel over Bft. At the lower levels, 26ft66ft, nickel percentage was 1.01 in a width of 40ft. This was described as oxidised ore. Directors report that drilling of hole 5.D.7 has been delayed because of the inadequacy of the drill rig. Another drill will shortly be available to continue this hole. Hole 5.D.9 is in progress.

Aust Capital Spending Up

Australian industry spent a record $404.2m on new buildings, machinery and other capital equipment in the March quarter, the Commonwealth Statistician (Mr K. M. Archer) reported today. This was $118.4m less than in the June quarter but the highest ever for a March quarter, usually the lowest portion of the year for new capital expenditure. Mining was the highest single source of new capital expenditure, being $72.2m against $52.9m the year before. Expenditure by other Industry groups included wholesale and retail trade $58.8m ($54.5m), and transport, $34.2m ($37.4m).
