City Building Decline
The decline in building activity in Christchurch city continued last month, when there were 308 permits Issued by the City Council for work valued at $749,341, compared with 312 permits valued at $1,096,469 In July of last year. For the first four months of the financial year the council has issued 1189 permits with a value of $3,651,607. At the same time last year the figures were 1332 and $4,344,423. There was a small increase in the number of new dwellings and alterations last month, but new flats construction declined. For other new buildings six permits valued at $45,230 were Issued. In July last year the 11 new permits had t value of $103,850. Alterations for other buildings, 37 in number, against 41, valued at $222,230, were less than half the value of the correspond: ing month of 1967.
