Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Mandarins were available at Christchurch produce market* yesterday at up to $2.50 a half case and* to $1.50 a quarter case. Although not in tune with tha weather, salad ingredients such as spring onions, lettuces and tomatoes were also available. Spring onions sold to $1 a dozen bunches, lettuces to $3.30 a case and tomatoes at 55c per lb. Grapefruit, tamarillos and Chinese gooseberries were tha only fruits quoted apart from mandarins. Grapefruit sold at prices to $3 a case, tamarillos at up to $2.60 a case, and Chinese gooseberries to $2.80 a case. Other prices supplied by tha Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers’ Association were: Marrows.—To 60c a case. Silver Beet.—To $1.35 a case. Beetroot.—To 50c a case. Pumpkins.—To $1.50 a bag. Cabbages.—To $l.BO a case. Carrots.—To $l.lO a case. Cauliflowers.—To $2.45 a casa. Onions.—s2 to $2.50 a bag. Parsnips —To 60c a case. Sprouts.—To $6.60 a case. Swedes. —90c to $1.20 a bag Potatoes. —70c to $1.20 a sugar bag. Leeks.—To $1.45 a case. Celery.—White: to $2 a cas*. Utah: to $2 a case. Spinach.—To $1.70 a case. Rhubarb.—To $2.60 a dozen
