HOME FOR AGED
Lyttelton Premises
The former Lyttelton maternity home is to be turned into a home for elderly people. Conversion will be undertaken by the Lyttelton Rotary Club. The North Canterbury Hospital Board has agreed to sell the premises to the club for $lO,OOO. The chairman of the club's community service committee (Mr J. B. Graham) said yesterday that the club would call a meeting of service and welfare organisations in the port and would invite the appointment of representatives to the proposed board of control.
The home will accommodate 19 people in single and double rooms plus provision for two lounges and other facilities. The club hopes for a subsidy from the Government. The home will be named Cressy House, after one of the first Four Ships and Cressy Terrace, where it is sited.
