SUBSIDISED WORK
79 Auckland Men Employed (N.Z. Press Association> AUCKLAND, July 23. The Labour Department approved Government-subsi-dised work for seven Auckland local bodies and provided jobs for 79 unemployed labourers in the last month. The district superintendent, Mr N. Pelvin, said the scheme seemed popular and be had had no problems. The Government made a grant of 75 per cent of the labour costs—a total of $33,087 for the 79 men. The jobs, lasting between six weeks and four months, included scrub clearing, footpath maintenance, the cleanng of water courses, and light construction work.
