Good Response By Public

Public response to the North Canterbury Hospital Board’s loan of $300,000 had been splendid, said the chairman of the board’s finance committee (Mr H. O. Hills) at yesterday’s board meeting. “Investments have been received from many individuals in both large and small amounts,” he said. “It is pleasing to find some institutions, including the savings branch of the Bank of New Zealand, now investing.” Subscriptions totalled $202,360, leaving $97,640 still available. “Of the stock available, $96,280 is in the 10 to 20-year terms bearing interest at 5j per cent and $1360 is in the 9-year term with interest at 5} per cent,” Mr Hills said.

Research Fellow The appointment of Dr R. A. Donald, at present in Houston, Texas, as a research fellow for a term of three years from January 1 next year was approved by the North Canterbury Hospital Board at its meeting yesterday. Dr Donald was formerly a physician employed by the board in Christchurch and will work with the medical unit in his field of Studying diabetes and metabolic diseases.
