15 Charges Of Theft
(N.Z. Press Association) KAIKOHE, July 19. Francis Leslie Polwart, of Kawakawa, branch manager of a cleaning contracting firm, pleaded guilty before Mr J. B. Bergin, S .M., in the Kaikohe Court to 15 charges of theft as a servant involving a sum $2673.97, and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment Detective Sergeant J. Russell told the Court that Polwart submitted 57 false time and wage statements over two periods—-from January 25, 1966, to August 21, 1967, involving $1794.40, and from October 31, 1967, to June 27, 1968, involving $879.57. Polwart had been eight years in the firm’s employ. “You used a clever system, you used an innocent person and you stole as a servant” said the Magistrate. . *'l cannot understand how, with your good record as a citizen, you could get yourself into this trouble.”
