Grant To Institute

(N.Z. Pre»» Association) WELLINGTON, July 21. A grant of SUSIOO,OOO (5NZ89.477) has been made

by the Ford Foundation of New York to the New Zealand Institute of International Affairs, the institute’s president (Sir Guy Powles) announced yesterday. The grant will be over the next three years. “This very generous grant will enable the institute, which is an nonpartisan body, more effectively to carry out its role, which is to promote within New Zealand an understanding of international questions and problems, particularly relating to New Zealand, the Commonwealth, and the countries of South-East Asia and the Pacific,” said Sir Guy Powles.

As a result of the grant, the administration of the institute will be on a fulltime basis. It will soon appoint a director who, together with other staff, will be responsible for developing research and information programmes, organising conferences, seminars and study groups, stimulating courses on international relations at the universities and carrying out the other objectives of the institute.
