Giant Slalom Trophy Won By P. Hubrich
P. Hubrich has won the Stamers Smith Memorial giant slalom for the second year in succession. The race was held at the North Canterbury Ski Club’s field on Saturday. The weather was fine and snow conditions were very good. Hubrich outskied a field which included M. Gardner and C. Womersley, the 1968 winter* Olympic ' representatives at Grenoble, in France. Gardner fell and missed a gate and was disqualified, and Womersley fell. The highlight of the race was the third placing of Miss A. Reid (Otago), ssec behind Hubrich. The Broken River Trophy race was held on Sunday in windy conditions. The visibility at times was poor but the snow conditons were still excellent. Gardner skied well to take first place, nearly 2sec ahead of Hubrich. Again, the feature of this race was the fast time of Miss R. Willis, who would have been placed fourth in the men’s section. Mr H. Lamprecht was the course setter. Placings.— Stamers ■ Smith Memorial
