“Operation Merino”

(N.Z.P A Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON, July 21. New Zealand and Australian troops have again clashed with Viet Cong forces on the third day of the new “Operation Merino” in the province of Bien Hoa. The operation began when the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, and the 4th Battalion, R.A.R., N.Z. (Anzac), were lifted by helicopters from round the sprawling Long BinhBien Hoa military complex to carry out their mission. The two battalions had been guarding infiltration routes round the giant United States installation for about seven weeks. In the last three days the Australian and New Zealanders have killed four Viet Cong and wounded many more.
