“Doubts Now Dispelled”

Doubts about the handling of refuse from overseas aircraft had been dispelled, the Yaldhurst delegate to the meat and wool section of North Canterbury Federated Farmers (Mr G. S. Barwell) said yesterday. Speaking at the section’s monthly meeting, Mr Barwell said he had been to see the Department of Agriculture. “Things that had been observed by our members have been cleared up, and it won’t happen again,” he said. At last month’s meeting Mr Barwell criticised the airport farming activities, saying that they posed a potential foot-and-mouth risk. He claimed that airport employees who handled the disposal of rubbish also attended to the feeding of sheep. The allegations -were denied by the manager of the airport (Mr A. I. R. Jamieson).
