Interest In Technique
A lot more interest has been shown in direct drilling of crops this year, Mr R. Taylor, agricultural research officer of Imperial Chemical Industries (N.Z.), Ltd, told farmers at a field day in the Rakaia Gorge this week. This has been associated with the phenomenal rainfall this year and the difficulty of getting on some country to get crops in. Mr Taylor said that this was particularly the case in South Canterbury, where there had been a hold-up in cultivation for several months. Speaking earlier to the Canterbury section of the New Zealand Institute of Agricultural Science, Mr Taylor said that there had been no trouble in getting sites for trials—“this autumn it has been more of an embarrassment than anything.”
