BANKRUPT’S STATEMENT

11l health and the failure of a scrap metal business conducted in Ashburton five years ago were the reasons Peter Albert Wright, aged 32, a mechanic, of Bridge Street, Christchurch, gave for his bankruptcy at a meeting of creditors yesterday. He disclosed unsecured debts of $2207, Including $BOO to an Ashburton firm for scrap metal in the form of old motor vehicles.

He said he owed the Magistrate's Court $370 in fines for offences including theft, assault and driving while disqualified. He said ill health had forced him to spend 18 months on Social Security. Because he had to pay $lO a week to the court he had no alternative but to file bankruptcy. The Official Assignee (Mr J. B. K. Curran) adjourned the meeting sine die for lack of a quorum.
