FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A trough of low pressure is moving north-eastwards over the North Island; a ridge of high pressure lies over the South Island; a depression lies over the western Tasman Sea. Forecast: Canterbury.—Light or moderate variable winds; mainly fine and cold but some cloudy areas near the coast, especially this morning; severe frosts tonight inland. Marlborough and Nelson.—Fresh to strong southerlies in exposed coastal areas of Marlborough decreasing, otherwise light winds; a few showers about the coast and ranges in Marlborough, otherwise fine and cool. Buller and Westland.—Light or moderate variable winds; fine with moderate day temperatures. Outlook.—All districts: mainly fine.
