Heathcote County
Sir, —I am surprised that L. R. Bloxham has rushed into print praising the Heathcote County Council for reducing its rates this year. This action is obviously designed to influence ratepayers against the many advantages of amalgamation with the city, and is yet another example of the poor way in which the affairs of the county have been administered by the present council. The county finances are only in credit because the Government agreed to the County Council’s borrowing money to pay its debts. One has only to look around the county to see the large amount of work this council should be undertaking. There are not many ratepayers willing to accept the inevitable result of this decrease in rates: an even poorer standard of service than has been given up to now. Election day in October will be judgment day. —Yours, etc, NOT FOOLED. July 11, 1968.
