Interest In Crafts
After three years the individual membership of the New Zealand chapter of the World Crafts Council has grown from five to 160 and 15 groups involving about 2000 people engaged in crafts. The president (Mrs N. Berkeley) reported to the annual meeting in Wellington recently that the success and interest shown in the council's exhibitions was gratifying and rewarding. The standard of craftmanship was improving. During the year several exhibitions were held at the request of the Nelson Suter Art Society, the Waikato Art Society, the Tokoroa Festival of Arts, the New Zealand Display Centre, during the Focus on Women Week in Wellington, and the War Memorial Museum, during the 1968 festival in Auckland. Mrs Berkeley will represent the chapter at the third biennial meeting of the World Crafts Council General Assembly, at Lima from August 25 to September 5. The council is a member of U.N.E.S.C.O. The venue of the chapter’s annual exhibition will he decided when Mrs Berkeley returns from Lima.
