BY-PRODUCTS AWARD

New Meeting Sought

By-products employers had been unwise in refusing a request by workers to meet again in conciliation over wages, said the general secretary of the New Zealand Freezing Workers’ Association (Mr F. E. McNulty) yesterday. Mr McNulty said that the union would ask the Conciliation Commissisoner (Mr S. W. Armstrong) to convene another meeting. “They can’t refuse to come,” said Mr McNulty. Mr McNulty said that when the union had negotiated for a new award, it had done so under the assumption that the Court was bound to bring down a decision increasing wages. Agreement had been reached in conciliation before the Court’s refusal to grant a general wage Order. The agreement had not been sent to the Court for ratification.
