EIGHT HURT
Eight persons were injured, six of them admitted to hospital, when two cars collided at the corner of the Main West and Waimaka-riri-Selwyn River Roads at Kirwee early yesterday afternoon. All the injured were in one car.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged. Two ambulances took the injured, mostly children, to hospital. Alexander Cooper, an adult, of 509 Gloucester Street, suffered head and arm injuries; Stephen Cooper, aged 10, and Alexander Charles Cooper, aged 16, head injuries; Rayma Cooper, aged 12, head, internal and leg injuries; Diane Odering, aged 13, head and arm injuries. They all live at 24 Hillary Crescent, Upper Riccarton, and were admitted to the Christchurch Hospital. Kevin Murray, aged 14, of 22 Hillary Crescent, was admitted to the Burwood Hospital suffering from a broken jaw.
Wayne Odering, aged 14, of 24 Hillary Crescent, suffered a knee injury and an abrasion to the cheek, and Catherine Ann Murray, of 22 Hillary Crescent, suffered a shoulder injury. They were treated at the casualty department of the Christchurch Hospital. The driver of the other car was Jennifer Grace Bell, of Kirwee.
