CATHOLIC CLERGY
Appointments
Announced
The Rev. J. Kortooms, assistant priest and choirmaster of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Barbadoes Street, has been commissioned to promote liturgical singing throughout the Diocese of Christchurch.
He will work at the parish level, giving assistance to choirs, congregations, organists and choirmasters.
The renewal in the forms of worship in the Roman Catholic Church emphasises participation by the congregation in prayer and song in the Mass and other services. The Rev. B. B. O’Gorman, a former parish priest of Rakaia, Hanmer and Ross, has been appointed resident Roman Catholic chaplain at the B.N.Z.A.F. Station, Wigram.
Father O’Gorman, who served as the Roman Catholic chaplain at Burnham Military Camp in 1953, will replace the Rev. C. P. Cooper, of Wellington. The Rev. P. O’Neill has been appointed assistant priest in North Timaru.
Four priests have been appointed as temporary administrators by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. B. P. Ashby). They are the Rev. P. F. Cahill (Waimate), the Rev. M. Doyle (Rakaia), the Rev. K. O’Grady (Ngahere), and the Rev. C. O’Brien (North Timaru).
