“Our Kissable Constables”
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) SYDNEY, June 24. Police women should not look like “over-painted dolls” the New South Wales Police Commissioner (Mr J. Allan) said today.
He was commenting on newspaper reports that some policewomen had been rebuked for over-use of cosmetics at a passing-out parade last week.
According to reports, it was said all policewomen would be made to use a “uniform” shade of lipstick. The Commissioner denied this. “As far as I know only a couple of the State’s 70 policewomen have overdone the facial make-up.”
In an editorial headlined “Our Kissable Contables," the “Sydney Sun” newspaper commented: “Perhaps he (the Commissioner) should remind his top brass that in the police force, rogues should come before rouge."
