POST OFFICE ADDITION

Philatelic Section

A philatelic section of the Christchurch Post Office will be opened on July 1, next to the parcels office in Hereford Street.

This would help to meet the needs of local stamp collectors and dealers and overseas visitors, said the Chief Postmaster in Christchurch (Mr M. E. Wilson) yesterday The new section would provide a specialised philatelic counter sales service, but all mail orders would be handled at the Philatelic Bureau in Wellington, he said Current issues of New Zealand, Government Life, Ross Dependency, Niue, and Tokelau Island stamps will be on sale.

Provision will also be made for an area in the section where customers may examine sheets of stamps and philatelic publications. New Zealand stamps and stamps of other countries will be on display and the displays will be changed regularly. Arrangements will be made for clients to service their own first day covers on the day of issue of a new stamp.

The new section will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday.
