Meat And Hair

The Christchurch Technical Institute board of governors last evening found amusement in the accidental conjunction in a report of two new courses for apprentices. One for the “retail meat industry” has been approved and the Education Board has granted $920 for butchery equipment. The other is for women's hairdressers, now being “converted” to apprenticeship training, for whom the institute will initially provide day-release classes until sufficient numbers are available for a block course. The department will be asked for a grant for hairdressing equipment and permission to set aside space for this instruction alone.
