Splendid Squash Played In Ranking Series
Excellent squash was played last evening when a series of ranking matches was held instead of the division one squash rackets competition. D. J. Triggs (Officers) continued in winning vein, lasting well to defeat the thirdranked R. M. Garrett (Christchurch), in the fifth game of an 80-minute marathon.
Triggs dropped the first two games but continued to make the play, using hie long reach to conserve his energy and showing uncanny accuracy in picking the ball off the walls. Garrett’s drop shots were too high and he played too many angles, allowing Triggs to take the centre court position.
The top-ranked J. F. Hen-
drrson (University) was forced to produce some of his best squash to hold back a determined J. H. N. Pine (Collegiate), finally winning comfortably in the fifth set, when Pine, obviously tired, could no longer match Henderson’s speed.
Results:— J. V. Henderson beat J. H. N. Pine, »-*. 8-9. 7-8, 9-2. 0-3; D. J. Trigs* beat R. M. Garrett, 7-8, 7-9, S-S, 9-7. 9-7: B. V. Hamilton beat L. G. Milne, *■*. S-S, S-S; S. Suckling beat L.
