LABOUR SEATS

Field Open ! Again ; The Labour Party has opened fresh nominations for the Christehnreh electorates for the General Election next year. Originally, nominations throughout the country closed at the end of March, and the choice had been made for many electorates. The position was complicated in Christchurch by uncertainty when nominations closed where the leader of the party (Mr Kirk), at present member of Parliament for « Lyttelton, would stand. Another complication was the change of electorate boundaries affecting sitting Labour members. Since then Mr Kirk has agreed to stand in Sydenham, where Miss M. B. Howard will retire, and Mr M. A. Connelly, member of Parliament for Riccarton, has said he is available for the new electorate of Wigram. Candidates are expected to be chosen soon after nominations close.
