Seized Lands Repossessed
(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright)
DJAKARTA, May 12. Indonesia has handed back some 123,000 acres of land seized from British and Belgian companies under the regime of the deposed President Sukarno.
The 15 companies involved have been granted new 30year concessions and have agreed to rehabilitate the estates, which have been under State management for four years. The British companies include London, Sumatra, controlled by Harrison and Crosfields, which took back its 79,000-acre North Sumatra estates last month and today repossessed lesser holdings in Java and the Celebes. The Indonesian Government has now handed back all major foreign plantation interests with the exception of those of Anglo-Indonesian, which has large and valuable holdings in West Java.
