Champion Bandsman Named

For the fourth time, R. McGavin, of the Palmerston North City Silver Band, was named as the champion of champions when he won the final

solo event in the na-

tional brass bands’ championships which ended in Christchurch yesterday.

McGavin also won the tenor horn solo event, bringing his wins for the event to nine.

Second in the chamipon of champions event was A. Martin, of the Skellerup-Woolston Band, and a member of the same band, N. Grenfell, was third. The Pat Cole Medal for the youngest winner was won by Grenfell and L. Hall (New Plymouth City) was awarded the Hangman’s Club trophy for the winner of the veteran solo section.
