Passengers At Wahine Inquiry
Sir,—The passengers on the last trip of the Wahine should not have to find money for representation at the inquiry. Before most of them had even got out of their wet clothes, th*- newspapers were giving a lot of space to the explanations and excuses of those responsible for the safety of the passengers. All the assessors named for the inquiry have maritime interests. It is human nature to let the dead past bury its dead, but most passengers will never get the opportunity to say in public what they are telling relatives, friends, and neighbours, even if they wanted to. All survivors should be obliged to appear at the inquiry or be questioned at their homes, with full costs allowed.— Yours, etc., VARIAN J. WILSON. May 10. 1968.
