Former Southerner Hurdles Fancy

Istan Light could make a favourable first impression under new colours in the Brackenfield Hurdles, first leg of the Amberley Racing Club’s on-course concession double today.

Istan Light has done all his previous racing in the colours of his Southland breeder, Mr W. E. Hazlett. He is now being raced by Mrs R. D. Dailey, a daughter of Mr Hazlett.

Istan Light failed to justify favouritism in the hurdles on the final day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's autumn meeting last month, but heavy ground could have affected the standard of his jumping, which was patchy. Displease. which was unlucky not to win twice at Riccarton at Easter, could complete a “Dailey double” today. Raced in partnership by Messrs D. F. Dailey and C. R. G. Woodham. Displease is top-weight in the Leithfield Hack Handicap, one mile and a quarter. Royal Blue should be equal to all demands made on him

in the Amberley Cup, first leg of the T.A.B. double. There should hardly be excuses on the score of luck in the running for any of the failures in the Amberley Cup. The race attracted only five acceptors, so there will be prizes for all but one of them. By contrast the field for the second leg, the G. B. Starky Memorial, attracted 12 horses, although one, Waltohi, has been scratched. Tumble should manage a top-weight’s victory if he has held his form since he won at Riccarton at Eaater. Probably the beat of his rivals will be Jayess, Morris Francis, Lady Fort, and Debbie Marie. The Held, are:— FIRST LEG OF OH-COURSE DOUBLE
