Day Nurseries

Sir,—We are concerned over the problem of unmarried mothers who keep their babies and must work during the day to keep themselves. Many have children under three years of age, and no way of looking after their children during working hours. The mother mult either put the child in a foster home or not work; neither alternative would be acceptable. A solution would be a day nursery in the eity. This could be supported by the Government subsidy available for building’ accommodation for unmarried mothers and their children. We believe that this would aid the mothers in helping themselves and would enable the community to fulfil a need that should have been filled some time ago.—Yours, etc., FRIENDSHIP HOUSE COMMUNITY GROUP.
