Red Cross Coin Trail
More than $2OO was collected yesterday from the first day of a coin trail round Christchurch Cathedral, organised by the North Canterbury centre of the Red Cross Society as part of a series of activities to mark the national Red Cross Week. Money from the trail, which will be held again today, will be used to support the society’s welfare team near Qui Nhon. The organiser of the trail (Mrs A. H. Weir) said last evening that had the coins been placed in a single row they would have reached about half-way round the stone wall surrounding the cathedral. However, because of the small number of persons helping with the colleeting, the coins had to be placed in double rows. Many botes wire also received. During the lunch hour yesterday $247.84 was raised for the society's general funds in activities held in the McKenzie and Willis Arcade by 3ZB.
