Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Vegetables were supplied In average quantities at the Christchurch produce markets yesterday, but prices fluctuated considerably from those of recent weeks. Silver beet, parsnips, kumeras and cucumbers sold at a much higher price than earlier in the week. Parsnips sold at up to $1.20 a case, at least 50c more than earlier in the week and cucumbers, selling between 40c and 80c a case, were 60c dearer. Sweet corn dropped 60c a tray and sold cheaply at 40c a case. Beetroot and swedes were also at least 30c a case cheaper. The official price range supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers* Association is:— Marrows.—To 60c a sack. Silver Beet.—3oc to 60c a case. Beetroot—To 40c a case. Cabbages.—Drumhead: to 50c a case. Savoy: to 50c a case. Carrots.—To 50c a case. Cauliflowers.—To 11.70 a case. Onions.—To $l.BO a sugar bag. Parsnips.—To $1.20 a case. Sprouts.—To $3.50 a case. Swedes.—soc to $1 a sugar bag. Potatoes.—To $1.40 a bag. Parsley.—To 5c a bunch. . Lettuces.—Oamaru: to $2.60 a case. Local: to $l.lO a case. Leeks.—To 60c a case. Celery.—White: to 90c a case. Utah: to $1.05 a case. Stringless Beans.—To $3.20 a case. Cucumbers.—4oc to 80c a case. Sweet Corn.—To 40c a tray. Pumpkins.—Butternut: to $1.20 a sack. Red: to 80c a sack. Crown: to $1.50 a sack. Tomatoes. —10c to 28c per lb. Peaches.—7oc to $1 a case.
