Crete’s Quarters Damaged
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 1. The crew’s quarters in the 500-ton islands trader Matipo were extensively damaged by Are about 5 a.m. today. Thirteen crewmen were aboard but nobody was -injured. The crew, mainly Fijians, lost personal possessions and pay issued yesterday, The damage is estimated between $2OOO and $lO,OOO, The Matipo, which works between Auckland, Noumea and Vila (New Hebrides), had been loaded ready for departure today, but will be delayed some days.
