Bairam Jumps Impressively
“The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Bairam schooled well at Awapuni yesterday morning In preparation for his first race as a steeplechaser at Woodville tomorrow.
The Bulls trainer, M. B. Andrews, brought the chestnut over for a schooling bout with Finish. The two gave a fine display, with Finish putting in some excellent leaps. Bairam had a good look at the fences and pleased Andrews and his jockey, C. Goss. Hindi was easily the best worker on the flat. He ran half a mile in smart time. His stablemate, Myth Mate, has been sold to Australia and will not race at Woodville. We Do will also make his debut in the same race. He jumped three of the steeplechase fences, but was not as impressive as Finish and Bairam. He went better earlier in the week.
The course proper was soft for galloping and Hindi ran a second faster than anything else for half a mile. He revelled in his work and beat Orinoco and French Dressing in 52 l-ssec, the last three furlongs in 38 4-ssec.
