Man Swept Away

(N Z. Prett Association? NEW PLYMOUTH, May 2. A man was drowned in the Ongarue Stream, near Taumarunui, about 9.5 a.m. today. He was Rukuwai James Plumeridge, aged 19, a labourer, of Ohakune. Mr Plumeridge was a member of a railways gang working on a bridge at Taringamotu, about three miles north of Taumarunui.

It is believed that a spirit level was dropped into the water and that when Mr Plumeridge tried to swim out to retrieve it he got into difficulties. Two friends tried to assist him, but he was swept away. His body was found this afternoon.
