School For Civil Defence Proposed
(New Zealand Preu Association) AUCKLAND, May 2. A national training school for civil defence volunteers was proposed today by the general manager of the Auckland Regional Authority (Mr E. A. Flynn).
The establishment of such a school by the Government would be a considerable step forward. Mr Flynn said to members of the authority’s civil defence committee. At present a very small number of civil defence workers was sent for training to a school in Australia, said Mr Flynn. A training school in New Zealand would give better value for money, he said. On the question of whether Government subsidies should be increased, Mr Flynn said: “At this stage we would get 100 per cent value for any money spent” The committee agreed that bigger subsidies were needed. The chairman, Mr S. R. Noall, said that draft submissions for increased Government help were being prepared.
