B. PHILP EXPECTS STEADY PROFIT
(NS. Preu AssoeiiUion—Copvright) SYDNEY, May 2. Bums Philp and Company, Ltd, sales were maintained in all sections of the group in the six months to December 31 and net profits were somewhat better than in the previous corresponding period, directors say in their interim report
Shipping losses continued te be a drain on other earnings, and are not expected to show any improvement in the current year.
Remedial action has been taken however which should reduce losses in 1968-69. The plantation companies have operated satisfactorily, production of both copra and cocoa being much the same as last year. With improved prices being received for produce sales, profit is estimated to be a little higher than for the same period last year, and as prices for copra and cocoa continue to rule at higher levels than last year, this upward trend is expected to continue. However, costs generally have increased, directors say.
