LEAD IN DISPUTE
Linwood May Be Beaten Papanui and Addington should lead the Rugby league premiership table after they play Eastern Suburbs and Linwood, respectively, at the Show Grounds tomorrow. Linwood, unbeaten after matches against Kaiapoi and Sydenham, will find Addington a much tougher obstacle. The fine young Addington back-line, backed by the strong-running of the forwards, was far too good for Marist-Western Suburbs, and the Linwood defence might be stretched to breaking point The luck of the draw did not help the promising Eastern Suburbs. It came very close to beating Addington and led Hornby for the first 30 minutes; now it has to meet Papanui, the third potential championship challenger. The Papanui backs should have too much experience for Eastern Suburbs, although a return to the bustling tactics used against Addington could worry Papanui in the forwards.
In the other games, Hornby should beat Sydenham and Marist - Western Suburbs should defeat Kaiapoi.
