POLICE MOVES

Demolition At Station

The stone section of the eastern end of the Central Police Station will be ready for demolition on Monday. The demolition-of this section and of the old wooden buildings attached to the rear will complete the clearance of the site for the new police station.

The demolition of the eastern stone section could not proceed until the Criminal Investigation Branch had been transferred to offices formerly occupied by the Health Department.

The offices the C. 1.8. formerly occupied on the first floor of the station are being cleaned and painted. Staff moving into those offices will be there at least five years as it is thought it will take that long to complete the initial stage of the multistorey station.

The motor accident office, the uniform inquiries office, the chief inspector’s office and the inspector’s office will be moved to the first floor of the station.

These moves will clear some ground floor offices in the remaining part of the building for section sergeants. The bicycle office, which at present shares cramped quarters with the uniform branch inquiries, will expand when uniform inquiries is moved. The whole of the move is expected to take a month.
