James Reston, twice a Pulitzer Prize winner, has been appointed executive editor of the “New York Times." Mr Reston, now associate editor, will take over later this year from Mr Turner Catledge, who will become a vice-president and director of the New York Times Company. Mr Reston, who is 58. will continue to write a column on the editorial page, but wilt be based in New York instead of Washington.
