Israelis’ Might On Parade
(N.Z.P.A..Reuter—Copyright) JERUSALEM, May 2. Israelis and tourists gathered in the flag-decked streets of Jerusalem today to watch the Jewish nation parade her military might in open defiance of United Nations and Arab protests.
Thourands of people arrived from all over the country to see Israeli armoured columns, spearheaded by Patton, Sherman and Frenchmade tanks rumble through the Israeli and Arab aectora of the Holy City. Also in the parade are Rus-sian-made tanks and ground-to-air missiles captured from the Araba during the six-day Middle East War last June. An air display by 300 Israeli Air Force jet aircrafts, including recently-acquired United States Skyhawk bombers, began the parade, which marked the twentieth anniversary of the birth of modern Israel. Jordan yesterday renewed its demand for United Nations sanctions, including military discipline, against Israel for its intended parade
through the old Arab sector of Jerusalem.
Israel replied by accusing Jordan and Its Arab allies of placing more importance on a Security Council resolution condemning the planned parade than on any previous United Nations action on the Middle East. The Soviet Union Mid it would participate in sanctions against Israel if all five permanent members of the Council voted for them.
