“Only Half Way”
We have only gone half the Y. ay ’ , said the chairman of the All Black selectors, Mr F. R. Allen, when commenting on Saturday on the performance of the 1967 All Blacks. “But it is a start and the tour of Australia in May and June should materially help the development of the running game,’ 1 he said. Mr Allen, who will coach the touring team, said that he was not under-rating the Australians. “They are keen to pull themselves up in international Rugby and they will have the benefit of the astute coaching of the former All Black and Australian half-back, D. M. Connor.
“However, on tour there will be many games when the All Blacks will have a chance to throw the ball round. Good passing and handling should become a habit so that we can eradicate some of the slovenly handling which is still present in our international teams.
“If this expected improvement In handling does occur, then the players will obtain a polish in their passing which was a feature of the Kiwis team,” said Mr Allen.
